Back up to the Cabin

The cool kids always talked about how, over the summer, they went to their cabins. Being kids, they didn’t know much about investments and finances and real estate. But those kids have grown up now. They are smart adults, and it’s their turn to impress their kids. Townhouse: Cool, Close, Comfort

It’s large, smack in the middle of Minnetonka or Greenwood. It has about twenty organisms inside, scurrying about, making messes. That’s right; it’s a townhouse. It’s a mix of independent living with a roommate that you never have to see if you don’t want to. It’s the best of both worlds. A townhouse is having your own house—for less. The only downside is you can’t scream at the top of your lungs right next to the wall at odd hours of the night. I know I spend my three o’ clocks yelling gibberish to the paint, but I’m guessing most people do not share this hobby. If you don’t, a townhouse might be right for you.

You have your own space. This is still your house to furnish as you please. It doesn’t matter if you clash the colors; it is your house to do as you wish. You have your own responsibility. They are your bills to pay, and you don’t have to rely on your partner’s half of the rent. It’s close to people. You don’t need to pick up the phone for a night on the town; you simply need to pick up your feet. It’s Not a House, It’s THE House

If you type “house” into a search engine, the first thing that appears won’t be Buy Sell Lease Real Estate’s website (http://www.buysellleasemn.com), but the television show. Granted, his stinging character is refreshing—although mine, Travis Senenfelder, is a bit more tolerable—and the mystery is always intriguing. However, if you’re simply trying to look for real estate in Minnesota, this could be a bit frustrating not seeing house listings, like those on BSL’s website, http://www.buysellleasemn.com/buy. Considering everything else you have to worry about: paperwork, finances, location, and the little girl that is suddenly pulling on your pant leg.

But, are you worrying about a house? Everyone has their focus set on getting the house—signing, paying, calling, negotiating. With more holes to jump through being added seemingly every day, new buyers are wide-eyed and scared. Old buyers, who might not even be that old, have begun to say, “Well, back in my day…” More people are trying to get a house, and less people seem to be looking for the house. They simply pull up Buy Sell Lease’s website and find something they can afford. Home

There are 22,227 houses in Minnetonka, Minnesota. What makes each of those houses a home? It’s hard to say. Driving from a long day of work, I can feel the gravitation pulling me into my couch. The second I walk through the doorway on the hardwood floor of the space I call my own, every muscle in my body relaxes as I enter a world of my own making.

But, why? Yes, the neighbors wave at me while mowing their lawn. It’s true that the lingering smell of the finish is always familiar. I know there’s always something to do without a map pointing me in the right direction. I’ll admit that my bed knows exactly how to seduce me into a well-deserved sleep. I don’t know if it’s those that transform my house into a home, but it’s clear that it is, indeed, a home.

Ask somebody else, and they’ll give you a completely different answer. I know a friend of mine hangs up a sign and stands by it wholeheartedly: “A house is just a house without a cat.” Without a cat of my own, all I can do is stare and hold back a chuckle. My mother would definitely, without any hesitation, let you know that family is what turns your house from building to home. If you were Joe Moore, you would say, “Home is where you can say anything you please, because nobody pays any attention to you anyway.” I’m not sure how much I believe Moore, but it certainly made me smile.
